Alpha Tau Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has always advocated for the elderly and for over 40 years our Roseville Apartment Complex has been a visible example to the entire San Antonio community of the chapter’s commitment to serving and honoring our senior itizens.
In 1968, the U. S. Congress enacted the Fair Housing Act (FHA), which prohibited racial discrimination in public and private housing. That same year, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) began offering financial support for the construction of low income housing. This legislation created the pathway for making Alpha Tau Omega’s dream to become a reality.
In 1969, the chapter president and “Roseville Committee” members met with the local FHA office to make an appeal for the construction of the Roseville Apartments. Following the meeting, a grant request for funding as prepared and submitted. In 1970, HUD approved the funds for construction of the 88 unit apartment complex.
In 2012 the final mortgage payment for Roseville was made and all other indebtedness was cleared. Current chapter member will be forever grateful for the tenacity, and dedication of the sorors who generated our legacy. Because of them, we have a vision conceived; we have a promise received; we have the spirit sisterhood believed.
